CCSS and the addition of educational technology has shifted the role of teachers to be facilitators of student learning as opposed to the dispenser of academic content. This session will define pointers to help administrators and/or ToSAs encourage and support this instructional shift for their teachers. Through understanding exploratory learning, visible thinking strategies, and various educational technology tools, administrators and ToSAs can provide in-house PD that addresses this instructional shift for teachers to become facilitators while developing processing, analyzing, synthesizing, and problem solving skills with the students.

In the 3-hour workshop, presenters will provide research that supports exploratory learning and visible thinking and demonstrate eight different strategies and educational technology tools that participants can adopt for their schools. Participants will be able to experience each strategy as a learner and also be exposed to the preparation and explanation of the strategy so that they can promptly plan for on-site PD. Discussion time for vital uses of each strategy, DOK levels, and CCSS strand will be included.
