Teachers, board members, and administrators use social media as a means of communicating with students, parents, and constituents, and with each other. This session will review social media do’s and don’ts from a legal and public relations perspective. We will examine various types of social media (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.) and discuss related legal issues which may arise in the educational work setting, such as free speech, intellectual property, and the Brown Act. Learn how to train your employees about the proper use of social media and how to respond to inappropriate conduct by employees, board members and students which occurs through social media.
