Women are significantly underrepresented in the STEM fields.  Yet, according to the Department of Labor, there are currently almost 500,000 job openings in computer science fields, one of the fastest growing and highest paid industries today.  While overt sexism is hard to find in most classrooms today, subtle gender biased attitudes and actions still play a pervasive role in the lives of elementary students.  In this session, I will discuss current data and information regarding gender bias and equity.  I will also share detailed steps that our TK-8th grade district took to combat gender inequities (especially in the STEM fields) to encourage all girls to follow their passions.
