Research shows that students who participate in social-emotional learning (SEL) programs demonstrate 11% gains in academics, improved classroom behavior, better stress management, and higher attendance. From growth mindset to sense of belonging, SEL skills and competencies are critical to students’ success in school and in life. In this session, we’ll explore how California districts like San Bernardino and Long Beach are reliably collecting, analyzing, and acting on data about SEL to better support every student. We’ll highlight how district leaders can couple SEL data with Multi-Tiered Systems of Supports (MTSS) to gain a deeper understanding of student progress, and demonstrate the use of this data alongside traditional indicators like academics, attendance, and behavior.
